The DCJS 075E Security Officer Handgun course is a 24-hour entry-level firearms training program required by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for armed security officers, couriers, alarm respondents, and security canine handlers seeking handgun endorsement certification. The course includes classroom instruction and practical firearms training covering firearm safety, handgun operation, marksmanship fundamentals, use of force, legal considerations, tactical shooting, low-light operations, range procedures, and firearm maintenance. Students must successfully complete both a written examination and firearms qualification course to receive handgun endorsement certification.
Upon successful completion, the DCJS handgun endorsement is valid for 2 years and must be renewed prior to expiration through completion of the required in-service firearms training and re-qualification mandated by DCJS.
